Weather monitoring
One of the key factors affecting crop size and quality is the weather.
What do you need to know about meteorological monitoring to choose the optimal equipment?
First and foremost, you need to determine the parameters of meteorological data you intend to monitor.

Weather stations typically have the capability to measure:
  • Basic stations and a basic set of sensors: air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, precipitation, soil temperature
  • Additional sensors that can be connected to weather stations: soil moisture, leaf wetness, leaf temperature, solar radiation, PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation)
  • Calculated values: dew point, effective temperature, cumulative precipitation, hydrothermal coefficient (HTC), evapotranspiration
Secondly, you need to choose the appropriate type of stations based on your data criteria.

Weather stations are categorized by their application type into:
  • Stationary weather stations with a large set of sensors typically installed at a central location to monitor a large group of fields
  • Supplementary autonomous sensors located remotely from weather stations but in proximity to fields or directly on them
  • Mobile weather stations that are installed on machinery

Finally, you need to determine in what format you need to receive and work with meteorological data

You can use both licensed software and integrate the data into third-party systems:
  • METEOTREK is a web portal and mobile applications
  • API involves integration with third-party farm management systems and telematics, ERP and enterprise resource planning systems, dashboards, and agronomist logs
